About Us

Ekalokam Trust for Photography (EtP) is an artist run, not-for profit organization registered Tamil Nadu, India. EtP is dedicated to protecting and promoting contemporary photography ad connected art forms; rejuvenating the traditional analogue medium; taking contemporary photo-art to rural and the surrounding urban South India; to archive the life and work of contemporary photographers and to initiate collective public photo-art projects. EtP’s area of operation spreads across the Tamilakam territory of ‘ancient tri-Sangam’ period, now meagerly represented in a geography comprising modern Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and parts of Andhra Pradesh. EtP strongly believes that more than a commodity, art is symbol of our ‘living’ and eternal connections, and therefore, has to be owned and protected by people. True to our art tradition, EtP intends to create a locally established permanent space to exhibit the valuable historic images for public access and use. EtP had initiated a five-year long public photo-art project 365 { https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_365 }that collectively creates and preserves photographic visuals of the fast vanishing landscape, divergent customs, pluralistic culture and diversified Dravidian society of ancient Tamilakam, a region comprising modern Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry. Noted contemporary Indian photographer Abul Kalam Azad { https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abul_Kalam_Azad_%28photographer%29 }is the visionary behind Ekalokam Trust for Photography. EtP has been informally working since mid-2012 and was formally registered as a Trust during mid-2013.
